Gardens in Kildare

Many Kildare homes have more garden than their Dublin equivalents: longer boundary hedges, mature trees planted when the estate was built, and rural sites bordered by hedgerows and roads.

That space is a big part of why people move here, but it also means more to keep on top of. We take on the bigger jobs (tall hedges, overgrown boundaries and trees that have outgrown their spot) as well as regular maintenance.

Long hedges and leylandii

Fast-growing leylandii and laurel hedges are common on Kildare estate boundaries. Left for a few years they can easily reach two storeys. We can bring them back down to a manageable height, and set up regular trims so they stay there.

Roadside hedgerows

If your property borders a public road, you're responsible for making sure the roadside hedge doesn't block sightlines or overhang the road. Heavier cutting of roadside hedgerows is restricted between 1 March and 31 August, so autumn and winter are the time to plan bigger jobs.

Mature trees on larger plots

Bigger sites often have mature ash, sycamore, beech and conifers. Ash dieback has left many ash trees in poor condition across the county. If you have an ash that's thinning or dropping branches, it's worth having it looked at.

Protected trees

Kildare County Council protects some trees with Tree Preservation Orders, and there are conservation areas in several towns. If you think your tree might be protected, check with the council's planning department before work is booked.

FAQs

Questions from Kildare customers

Do you cover all of County Kildare?

Send us your Eircode or town and we'll confirm straight away. If a job is outside our usual area we'll tell you honestly.

When should I book a big hedge reduction?

Autumn and winter, ideally between September and February. Nesting-season rules and bird protection make spring and summer the wrong time for heavy hedge work.

My ash tree is losing branches. What should I do?

Keep people and cars away from underneath it and get it looked at. Ash dieback can make branches brittle, and affected trees often need reducing or removing. Send us photos and we'll advise.

Seasonal advice

When is the best time to cut hedges in Ireland?

Hedge cutting in Ireland comes with a few rules, mostly to protect nesting birds. Here's when to trim, when to hold off, and how often different hedges need cutting.
