Hedge cutting and hedge removal
A well-kept hedge does a lot for a house. We trim, reduce and reshape hedges of all sizes, and remove the ones that have had their day.

Hedges that got away from you
Laurel, leylandii and griselinia grow fast. Miss a season or two and they're too tall to reach, too wide for the path and blocking light to the house or the neighbours.
Front hedges on corners can also start to block sightlines for cars coming out of driveways.
How we help
Regular trimming keeps a hedge dense, even and at a height you can live with. Overgrown hedges can usually be brought back with a harder reduction in height and width, sometimes over two visits so the hedge recovers well.
If a hedge is past saving or no longer wanted, it can be removed completely, with roots dealt with as agreed.

Before we start
Safety, access and permissions
Every site is different. These are the things that shape how a job is done — and what it costs.
- Under the Wildlife Acts, it's an offence to destroy an active bird's nest at any time, and cutting hedgerows on uncultivated land or roadsides is restricted from 1 March to 31 August. Garden hedges should still be checked for nests before cutting in spring and summer, and cuts kept light during nesting season.
- Owners of land beside a public road are responsible for keeping roadside hedges from becoming a hazard to road users.
- Tall hedges mean working at height: platforms or towers are used where needed, not ladders balanced on hedges.
- Green waste: Whether green waste is taken away, chipped on site or left neatly for your brown bin depends on the job. We'll set this out clearly in your quote so there are no surprises.
The process
How the job works
- 01
Step 1: Send a photo
One photo of the full length of the hedge and a rough height and length is plenty.
- 02
Step 2: Quote
We confirm the finished height and width, and what happens to the cuttings.
- 03
Step 3: Cutting
The hedge is trimmed or reduced to an even, tidy line.
- 04
Step 4: Clear-up
Cuttings are raked out of beds and lawns and paths are swept.

FAQs
Hedge cutting: common questions
When can I cut my hedge in Ireland?
Garden hedges can be trimmed most of the year, but between 1 March and 31 August you need to check carefully for nesting birds and keep cutting light. Major reductions and hedge removal are best done in autumn and winter. Hedgerows on farmland and roadsides are restricted during that period.
Can an overgrown leylandii hedge be cut back hard?
Leylandii can be reduced in height quite a lot, but it doesn't regrow from bare brown wood on the sides. We'll tell you how far it can safely be cut back before it starts to look bare.
How often should a hedge be cut?
Most garden hedges look their best with one or two trims a year. Fast growers like leylandii and griselinia may need more.
Can you remove a hedge completely?
Yes. The hedge is cut down and the stumps and roots dealt with as agreed, ready for fencing, a wall, or new planting.
