Tree stump removal
An old stump can stop you laying a lawn, building a shed or planting a new bed. We'll remove it and leave the ground ready for what comes next.

Stumps left behind
Stumps are easy to forget about until you want to use that part of the garden. Some keep sending up new shoots for years; others rot and attract fungus.
How we help
There are a few ways to deal with a stump. It can be cut flush with the ground, ground down below the surface, or dug out with the main roots. The right option depends on the stump's size, the access, and what you want to do with the space.
We'll explain the options that suit your garden and price them clearly.

Safety, access and permissions
Every site is different. These are the things that shape how a job is done — and what it costs.
- Underground pipes, drains and cables can run close to stumps. Let us know about anything you're aware of.
- Narrow side gates and steps affect which equipment can reach the stump.
- Green waste: Whether green waste is taken away, chipped on site or left neatly for your brown bin depends on the job. We'll set this out clearly in your quote so there are no surprises.

FAQs
Stump removal: common questions
How deep does a stump need to go?
For new turf, a modest depth below the surface is usually enough. For a patio, building or a new tree in the same spot, it needs to go deeper. Tell us what you're planning and we'll suggest the right depth.
Can you remove a stump without removing the tree first?
The tree needs to come down first, but both can be done on the same visit. See our tree removal page.
