How much does garden work cost in Dublin? What really shapes the price
Two gardens on the same road can cost very different amounts to look after. Here's what actually drives the price of garden work in Dublin.
Costs & planning ·
It's the first thing most people want to know, and the honest answer is that it depends on the garden. Two houses on the same Dublin road can need very different amounts of work. Rather than guess at a number, here's what actually shapes the price, so you can judge whether a quote is fair.
Size and how much work is involved
Obvious, but worth saying: a small terraced back garden and a large suburban plot are different jobs. For hedges it's the total length and height that matter. For lawns it's the area and how often it's cut. For a garden clearance, it's how dense the growth is and how long it's been left.
Access
Access is the hidden cost in a lot of Dublin jobs. If cuttings and timber have to come out through the house rather than a side gate, everything takes longer and needs more care. Steep steps, narrow paths and parking restrictions all add time too.
Waste
Green waste is often a bigger share of the cost than people expect. A full hedge reduction or clearance can produce several loads. Ask whether removal and disposal are included in the quote, or whether you'll be left with bags to deal with.
Height and risk
Anything above head height needs the right equipment and more care. Tall hedges may need platforms. Tree work near houses, sheds, glasshouses or cables needs branches lowered in sections rather than dropped. That extra care is a large part of the price, and it's the part you don't want anyone skimping on.
One-off jobs versus regular maintenance
A garden that's kept on top of costs less per visit than one left for a year. If your garden is regularly getting out of hand, regular maintenance visits usually work out cheaper over the year than repeated big tidy-ups.
What about full landscaping projects?
New patios, walls, layouts and planting schemes are priced very differently, usually after a site visit and a design. If you're planning a bigger project, it's often worth getting the existing garden cleared, hedges reduced and any problem trees dealt with first, so you can see what you're working with.
